Article originally from Marc Stamp at the Jamaica Gleaner:

Cedella Marley, daughter of the late Reggae icon Bob Marley, has been appointed an ambassador for the national women’s team.

The Reggae Girls are seeking to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Canada.

President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, made the announcement at the federation’s head office in New Kingston, yesterday.

“We want to thank Cedella Marley for becoming ambassador for the Reggae Girls. We have skillful players but funding is lacking for international exposure,” Burrell said.

“They have not progressed to a women’s World Cup finals because they are not able to get proper exposure. With Cedella as the face for the Reggae Girls, we know that she will do whatever possible to get funding,” he confidently added.

Cedella Marley was delighted to be linked with the Reggae Girls.

“It is especially good to be a part of the team as women’s football is having a great time,” Cedella Marley said.

“I can ask for funding, but there are a lot more things to get the girls to become world-class athletes,” Cedella, who is CEO of the Bob Marley Foundation and Tuff Gong International, disclosed.

“I am so happy to be an ambassador, to be able to be a voice for the Reggae Girlz. It is the right time for everyone to get together and support the Reggae Girlz,” she added.

Cedella also disclosed that a reality show will be produced to make people aware of the Reggae Girlx. The promotion will be known as Strike Hard.
